Saudi Airlines flight catches fire; Nearly 300 people were onboard

An aircraft of Saudi Airlines took off from Riyadh to Peshawar (a city of Pakistan) on July 11, 2024. While landing at the Peshawar airport, the landing gear of the aircraft caught fire. There were nearly 300 people onboard the flight.

The aircraft SV-792 was landing at Peshawar’s Bacha Khan International Airport while the incident took place.

The incident was investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The report states that the smoke and sparks were witnessed by the air traffic controllers on the flight. The smoke was radiated from the left- hand side landing gear of the aircraft when it landed. This alerted the pilots.

As soon as the issue was noticed, the rescue and fire services were informed.

The CAA fire vehicles were able to control the fire, which was provoked by the landing gear of the aircraft, on time. The fire tenders saved the flight from a major accident, stated the spokesperson for CAA.

Some problems with the landing gear called out the incident. But according to the reports, no casualties occurred due to the incident. “All the 276 passengers and 21 crew members were safely rescued with an inflatable slide,” CAA spokesperson Saifullah states.

The passengers and the crew members of the flight had a lucky escape from the emergency slide of the aircraft.

The airport is working as usual, and all the flights will board as per their timings and schedules, state the officials of the Peshawar airport.

A video is going viral on social media, in which the passengers are getting out of the plane by the emergency slide.

Further investigation of the incident will be done by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). A team of them will begin the investigation soon, according to the sources.

Saudi Airlines later stated that the aircraft was currently undergoing a technical evaluation by the specialists.
