New Delhi, August 22, 2024 – The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has asked social media platforms operating in India to comply with a recent Supreme Court order regarding the identity of the deceased in the RG Kar Medical College incident. The order directs the removal of all references to the victim’s name, photographs, and video clips from social media platforms and electronic media.

Ministry Urges Compliance to Avoid Legal Consequences

The Ministry has urged social media companies to ensure that sensitive information is not further disseminated, warning that failure to comply may result in legal consequences and regulatory action. Social media platforms are also required to inform the Ministry about the action taken in response to the compliance of the Supreme Court order.
