Murray’s Injury-Minute Stunner Seals Jamshedpur FC’s Thrilling 2-1 Comeback Victory Over FC Goa
September 17 – Jordan Murray’s injury-minute strike helped Jamshedpur FC mount a stunning comeback to defeat FC Goa 2-1 at the JLN Stadium on Tuesday.
Khalid Jamil’s men, trailing for over 73 minutes, showed remarkable grit and determination to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, with Javi Siverio’s penalty and Murray’s breathtaking last-minute strike sealing the win in sensational fashion.
Murray’s moment of magic came deep into stoppage time. With the game seemingly headed for a draw, the substitute picked up the ball outside the box and unleashed an unstoppable right-footed shot that rocketed into the bottom left corner, leaving Goa’s goalkeeper Kattimani helpless. The explosion of joy from the Jamshedpur bench was a testament to the perseverance and resilience that the team had shown throughout the game, turning what seemed like a defeat into a dramatic 2-1 victory.
The comeback began in the 73rd minute when Jamshedpur, down 1-0 after Armando Sadiku’s deflected goal for Goa in the 48th minute, earned a lifeline. Javi Siverio was brought down in the box by FC Goa defender Odei Onainidia, and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. With nerves of steel, Siverio stepped up and coolly slotted home the penalty, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and reigniting hope for Jamshedpur FC.
Jamshedpur had struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, with FC Goa dominating the early proceedings. Goalkeeper Albino Gomes was the savior in the opening minutes, making two point-blank saves to deny Goa an early lead. Jamshedpur slowly grew into the game, with Sanan and Eze linking up well in the 25th minute, though their attack was stifled by Goa’s defense.
But Jamshedpur’s second-half resurgence was undeniable. Four consecutive corners between the 52nd and 55th minutes had Goa under immense pressure, with Siverio and Murray both coming close to equalizing. It was only a matter of time before Jamshedpur’s persistence paid off.
After Siverio’s equalizer, Jamshedpur pushed for the winner, and Murray delivered when it mattered most. Khalid Jamil’s men will now head back to Jamshedpur with renewed energy for their first home match against Mumbai City FC on September 21.
