Young people are in a large percentage of the population in many countries, yet their participation in politics remains limited. Many students believe politics is a corrupt and, complicated, or irrelevant to their lives. This mindset can be harmful to the future of democracy. Politics affects almost every aspect of our lives which includes education, employment, healthcare, and freedom of expression and more.
When young people stay away from politics, decisions are made without considering their needs and requirements . Voting, participating in discussions and staying informed are basic democratic responsibilities one should follow. One reason for youth disengagement is distrust in political leaders. Scandals have broken promises, trust and power struggles create frustration among young voters. Politics is often portrayed as negative and aggressive, which discourages thoughtful and educated individuals from participating in it.
Despite these challenges youth involvement is very essential. Young people bing there fresh ideas, energy, and innovation in it . Even history shows that student movements have played a crucial role in social and political reforms, with access to information and digital platforms, today’s youth are more capable than ever of organising, expressing opinions, and demanding accountability.
In my opinion, political awareness should begin with educational level schools and universities should encourage open discussions on social and political issues, they must understand that avoiding politics does not make problems disappear it only allows others to decide their future. To conclude, active youth participation is the backbone of a healthy democracy. Instead of seeing politics as a dirty game, young people should view it as a responsibility and an opportunity to bring positive change.
