A two-day leprosy training program for medical officers and leprosy workers was organized on July 23, 2025, at the Civil Surgeon Auditorium, East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur. The training was held under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal and with support from Damien Foundation India Trust, as part of the National Leprosy Eradication Program.
Key Highlights:
- Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal emphasized the importance of dedicated efforts in eradicating leprosy, stating that duties must be performed with honesty and commitment at the grassroots level.
- Trainers Mr. Somshekhar Reddy and State Coordinator Dr. Gautam Kumar educated participants on leprosy symptoms, types, treatment, disability prevention, and medical rehabilitation.
- District Leprosy Prevention Officer Dr. Mrityunjay Dhauriya highlighted that early detection and treatment can prevent disabilities, with free MDT available at all government health centers.
- District Leprosy Consultant Dr. Rajiv Lochan Mahato reported that 94 new leprosy patients have been identified and provided free MDT in the current financial year.
Support for Patients:
Under the Food Supplements for Patients scheme, new patients registered since April 1, 2025, receive ₹500 monthly, with ₹3000 for PB patients and ₹6000 for MB patients transferred to their bank accounts.
Conclusion:
The training concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rajiv Lochan Mahato. The success of the program was supported by Damien Foundation’s team, including Duryodhan Bagati, Kamdev Besra, Sanjay Chatterjee, and Nitesh Kumar. This initiative marks a significant step toward leprosy eradication in the region.
