New Delhi, September 15: The shocking and brutal murder of Indian-origin Chandra Nagamallaiah in Dallas, Texas, has drawn a strong response from former US President Donald Trump. Nagamallaiah, a well-respected motel manager originally from Karnataka, was mercilessly beheaded by an undocumented Cuban immigrant in front of his wife and son at a Dallas motel last week.

Trump, on his social media platform Truth Social, condemned the gruesome killing and expressed outrage that the accused, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, who has a criminal record including child sex abuse and grand theft auto, was allowed to remain in the US. “This individual should never have been in our country,” Trump said, blaming the current Biden administration for what he termed “incompetence” in immigration enforcement.

The incident occurred on September 10 at the Downtown Suites motel, where Nagamallaiah was employed. The attack reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the use of a broken washing machine. Surveillance footage shows Cobos-Martinez producing a machete, relentlessly attacking Nagamallaiah, who fled to the motel’s office where his wife and son were present. Despite their attempts to intervene, Cobos-Martinez continued the assault, ultimately beheading Nagamallaiah. Disturbingly, the attacker kicked the severed head into the parking area and placed it in a dumpster. Police arrested Cobos-Martinez shortly after.

Trump vowed decisive action, assuring that under his watch, the US would no longer be lenient with illegal immigrant criminals. “This criminal, who we have in custody, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. He will be charged with murder in the first degree,” Trump stated. He also praised his administration’s officials working toward making America safe again.

The US Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Cobos-Martinez had been released under the Biden administration after Cuba refused to accept him due to his criminal past. The Indian Consulate in Houston extended condolences to the family and confirmed it was closely monitoring the case and providing assistance.

The murder has sparked nationwide debate over US immigration policies and safety measures for immigrants and residents alike. Congressman Ro Khanna condemned the killing, highlighting the need for justice and stricter controls to prevent dangerous individuals from remaining free.
