Mystery Around Missing Epstein Files: Trump Photo Briefly Vanishes from DOJ Site

Washington, December 22, 2025 – Some files from the big batch of Jeffrey Epstein documents put out by the US Department of Justice have disappeared from their website. Reports say at least 16 files were there one day and gone the next. One of them showed a picture that included President Donald Trump.

The DOJ started releasing thousands of pages and photos last week. This came after a new law pushed for more openness about Epstein’s cases. Epstein was the financier who died in jail while facing sex trafficking charges. His close associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, is serving time for helping him.

People noticed the missing files over the weekend. Most were pictures from inside Epstein’s homes – things like artwork with nudity, a hallway with tiles, mail slots full of letters, and a notebook with names and addresses. But the one that got attention was a shot of a desk drawer holding framed photos, including old pictures of Trump with Epstein and others.

Democrats in Congress quickly pointed it out online, asking if something was being hidden. The White House and DOJ pushed back hard. They said the removals happened because courts in New York flagged possible issues with victim privacy. After checking, they found no victims in the Trump photo, so they put it back up without changes.

A top DOJ official, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, said on TV that none of this had anything to do with protecting the president. He promised no names or mentions of Trump would be cut from future releases.

From what reporters have seen so far, Trump’s name doesn’t come up much in these files. The New York Times looked through thousands of pages and hundreds of images and said the same – just a few old, already-known photos.

The DOJ has made clear that any blacked-out parts or delays are only to shield victims. They say no politicians’ names are being hidden on purpose. More files are expected in the coming weeks.

Victims’ advocates are frustrated. Some say the release feels incomplete, and they want everything out to get full justice. Lawmakers from both sides have complained about heavy redactions and the slow rollout.

This whole thing has stirred up old questions about Epstein’s ties to powerful people. But based on what’s public now, nothing new points to wrongdoing by big names like Trump or others.

The files are still up on the DOJ’s special “Epstein Library” page for anyone to check.
