Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio was assassinated yesterday during a rally in the capital Quito. The current President Guillermo Lasso has confirmed this incident. Mr. Villavicencio was reportedly shot in the head by a gunman while riding in a car. The incident took place amid ongoing violence in the South American nation. Drug trafficking and violent incidents are increasing here. The first phase of the presidential election will be held on August 20.
