Jamshedpur, September 24, 2024 – The East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand has reported a notable advancement in its campaign against leprosy, with the confirmation of 94 leprosy cases out of 2,377 suspected patients during its recent Leprosy Search Campaign. This initiative, which concluded its examination phase on September 24, 2024, underscores the district’s commitment to eradicating leprosy through proactive detection and treatment.
Key Highlights of the Campaign:

Identified Cases: The campaign successfully identified 94 patients across various blocks including Chakulia, Baharagora, Dhalbhumgarh, Ghatshila, Musabani, Dumariya, Potka, Jugsalai, Patmda, and urban areas of Jamshedpur.

Treatment Access: All confirmed leprosy patients were immediately provided with free Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT), ensuring they receive timely treatment to prevent further spread and complications.

Financial Support: In a bid to alleviate financial burdens, each leprosy patient is receiving ₹500 monthly during their treatment period, directly transferred to their bank accounts.

Family Engagement: An innovative approach involves offering ₹100 to family members of leprosy patients for undergoing examination, promoting broader health checks within families.
Incentives for Community Health Workers:
Dr. Mrityunjay Dhauriya, District Leprosy Prevention Officer, highlighted the importance of community involvement, “Our strategy includes incentivizing health workers and family members, ensuring that the community actively participates in our efforts to eradicate leprosy.”
