Caracas, Venezuela – 30 July 2024 The clash between security forces and protesters who are dissatisfaction with the result of the recent elections carried out in Venezuela were used tear gas and rubber bullets. These included mass protests with thousands of people, including those from mountain shantytowns across the country, in central Caracas, and a march to the presidential residence the day before yesterday.

Violence took place soon after President Nicolás Maduro declared victory in the vote whose legitimacy is still contested by the opposition. They also debunk Maduro’s claim of an outright victory, saying that their man, Edmundo González, carried the day with a better percentage of votes.

In the opinion polls before the elections, González was showing a huge lead, and as a result, the opposition had more grounds to allege electoral fraud.
