Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Warsaw on the first leg of his visit to Poland and Ukraine. He was given a warm welcome at the Warsaw Military Airport in Poland. Indian expatriates also gave him a traditional welcome at a hotel. Mr. Modi paid floral tributes at the Jam Saheb Navanagar Memorial. Mr. Modi will pay floral tributes at the Monte Cassino War Memorial and the Kolhapur Memorial. Mr. Modi will participate in a community event in Warsaw and interact with the Indian community.

Prime Minister said before departure that Poland is a major economic partner of India in Central Europe. He said that India and Poland’s commitment to democracy further strengthens the mutual relations between the two countries. Mr. Modi said that his visit to Poland is taking place on the occasion of completion of 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. During the visit, Mr. Modi will meet Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in the last 45 years.
Regarding the Ukraine visit, the Prime Minister said that he is going to Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelensky. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since bilateral relations began in 1992. He expressed hope for an early return of peace and stability in the region. Mr Modi said he would meet President Zelensky to strengthen bilateral cooperation and share views on a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen the mutual relations between the two countries.
