In a bid to promote health and fitness among senior citizens, Tata Steel Sports Department organized a Senior Citizen Badminton Championship on August 20 at the Badminton Indoor Stadium, JRD Tata Sports Complex. The event was held under the banner of the Senior Citizen Fun and Fitness League, a year-long program aimed at engaging senior citizens in various sports events.
The championship saw a total of 16 participants, who showcased their badminton skills and competed with each other in a friendly and competitive environment. The event was graced by Ashok Kumar, Commandant, CRPF, who was the chief guest and gave away prizes to the finalists.
As a token of appreciation, a special prize was awarded to P Mohan Rao, aged 82+, for participating in the meet. This gesture was a testament to the organizers’ commitment to encouraging senior citizens to stay active and engaged in sports.
Vivek Sharma, badminton coach, officiated the tournament, ensuring a smooth and fair competition. The event was led by Dinesh Rakshit, Manager (Sports), and Neelam Kumari, Senior Manager Accounts & Establishment (Sports), under the leadership of Head Sports Vibhuti Dhand Adesara.
The Senior Citizen Fun and Fitness League is an initiative by Tata Steel Sports Department to provide a platform for senior citizens to engage in various sports events throughout the year. The program aims to promote health, fitness, and social interaction among senior citizens, and the badminton championship was a significant event in this series.
