Jamshedpur, September 18, 2024: In alignment with the nationwide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024’ campaign, Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP) has launched a comprehensive cleanliness drive aimed at promoting hygiene, cleanliness, and environmental sustainability within the zoo premises. This initiative reinforces Tata Zoo’s commitment to providing a clean and healthy environment for both visitors and its animal residents.
Cleanliness Drive Inauguration
The cleanliness drive was inaugurated by Dr. Naim Akhtar, Deputy Director (G.A), TSZP, and Dr. Manik Palit, Deputy Director (Veterinary), TSZP. Senior officials emphasized the importance of cleanliness in preserving natural habitats. Dedicated teams of zoo staff and security personnel were deployed to clean all enclosures, walkways, visitor areas, and surrounding landscapes. Special emphasis was placed on disinfecting high-traffic zones to ensure the health and safety of visitors and animals alike. The team also focused on segregating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, ensuring eco-friendly waste management practices.
Promoting Environmental Responsibility
The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign is not just about keeping surroundings clean but also about inculcating a sense of responsibility towards the environment. “At Tata Zoo, we aim to make a meaningful contribution to this noble cause by ensuring that our premises remain clean and green, setting an example for all our visitors,” stated the senior officials.
Health Checkup Camps
As part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024’ campaign, TSZP also organized health camps to diagnose diseases affecting outsourced workers at the zoo. A general health check-up and eye check-up were conducted for housekeeping staff, construction vendors, zoo personnel, and security staff in collaboration with Rotary Club, Jamshedpur, Jamshedpur Eye Hospital, Tata Steel Foundation, and Tata Steel Zoological Society. Notable contributions came from Dr. N.C. Singhal and other Rotarians like Dr. Vijaya Bharat, Shri Jagannath Santra, PP Madhumita Santra, Ms. Hiba, and Smt. Anju Singh.
Eye Check-up Results
The eye check-up, conducted from 10:00 AM to 01:00 PM, saw a turnout of 30 people (20 female and 10 male). Three individuals were diagnosed with cataracts, and ten were recommended to use eyeglasses.
General Health Check-up Results
The general health check-up saw 35 participants. Eight individuals were diagnosed with high sugar levels, and four were diagnosed with high blood pressure. These individuals were referred to hospitals or clinics for further diagnosis and treatment.
Community Appreciation
The health check-ups were warmly received by the marginal income group, especially those working in the zoo on an outsourced basis or through vendors. The community appreciated this initiative and expressed hope for more such activities in the future targeting their well-being.
