The inauguration of a new campus of Nalanda University in Rajgir, Nalanda district today has sealed a monumental moment in the history of education of India. The event, which is starting from 10AM at Sushma Swaraj Auditorium that is located inside the territory of the university, means a new page in the history of the known institution.

On the occasion the Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the Union Minister for external affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar will be present. Besides cultural troupes, other notable participants at the event are Heads of Missions from 17 countries.

Judging its quality by sustainability, the Lucknow campus, built in 450 acres of land from grounds of the historical Lucknow city of Uttar Pradesh, India, complies with the to its environmental conservation policy by its ‘Net Zero’ Green Campus initiative. It has even got the capacity of putting up a solar plant and water treatment plants, and small and big water bodies throughout a 100 acres of land highlighting the concept of self-sufficient units.

After the first intake in the same year, in 2014 from a provisional campus, Nalanda University offers a multitude of academic programs across six schools. These are Historical Studies and Arts, Ecology and Environment Studies, Buddhist Studies and Philosophy, Comparative religions, Politics and International Relations, studying world peace in relation to teachings of Lord Buddha, Languages, Languages and Literature, Management Studies.

The present building design of the campus has resemblance with Nalanda University and fact is established by having additional residential facilities of 500 students and two blocks for the class room accommodating 40 class rooms and 1900 students at a time.

With a focus on combined development of India and the EAS countries, the historical inauguration also underlines the country’s focus on the development of education and environmental conservation.
