Full-Back’s Comeback Story Inspires as Jamshedpur FC Wins Durand Cup Opener
PREM KUMAR SRIVASTAVA: In a heartwarming tale of perseverance and determination, Ashutosh Mehta made a successful comeback to professional career for Jamshedpur FC after a span of two years left with a different implication of his performance which was an important role that made FC triumph in the 133rd Indian Oil Durand Cup. Jota, the full-back is also labelled as a hero after coming back from a two-year ban and other problems in his life to play football on the field again.
The journey of Mehta to football or physical activities was not quite an easy one. He was given a two-year ban beginning June 24, 2022, and this makes him away from the game that he enjoys. However, he was able to spend this time in improving himself and shaping the kind of person he has become physically and mentally. Mehta then commented about his time away from football saying, ‘I was my biggest competitor.’ ‘I had to bow my head and continue working’, he said adding that he feels lucky to have returned to the pitch after being sidelined for of 800 days.

Mehta complemented his hard work when he contributed hugely in Jamshedpur FC’s defensive wall that marshalled a clean surrender against Assam Rifles FT during their opening match of Durand Cup. He transfixed the attention of the chief coach Kalid Jamil who adulated him for his maturity and his input into the team.
