New Delhi, Aug 18—

On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, widows from ashrams in Vrindavan and Mathura sent special rakhis to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These widows, residing in Maa Sharda and Radhatila Ashrams, traditionally visit Delhi to perform the ritual of tying rakhis at the Prime Minister’s residence. This year, they sent rakhis adorned with PM Modi’s picture to the Prime Minister’s Office, prepared by the Sulabh Foundation, which organizes the rakhi-making event annually.

Vineeta Verma, Vice President of the Sulabh Foundation, noted that Bindeshwari Pathak, founder of the Sulabh Movement, began organizing Hindu rituals for widows, including Raksha Bandhan. Verma expressed joy at the rakhis being sent to the Prime Minister. Bhagwatcharya Ramvilas Chaturvedi of Vrindavan explained that Raksha Bandhan, celebrated on the full moon day of the Shravan month, is a special festival where sisters tie a rakhi on their brothers’ wrists, and brothers promise to protect them and give gifts in return.
