Dhanbad, May 14:
Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, visited the Belgaria Township today as part of his two-day tour of Dhanbad. In a significant move to boost local livelihoods, the Minister distributed e-rickshaws to families rehabilitated under the Jharia Master Plan. The vehicles were provided through BCCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Dubey emphasized that the government is committed to making displaced families self-reliant. “Providing a roof is just the first step; ensuring a sustainable income for these families is our ultimate goal,” he stated.
Focus on Safety and State Cooperation
The Minister expressed grave concern over the ongoing issues of land subsidence and gas leakages in coal-bearing areas like Kenduadih. He urged residents living in danger zones to move to safer locations immediately, prioritizing human life above all else. He also sent a strong message to the State Government, noting that the complex issue of displacement cannot be resolved without their full cooperation.
Review of Production and Global Outlook
During his visit, the Minister chaired a high-level meeting to review BCCL’s coal production targets and safety protocols. He also echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for the judicious use of resources like fuel, citing the volatile global situation and the need for national resource conservation.
The visit is seen as a crucial step in accelerating the Jharia Rehabilitation Scheme 2.0 and ensuring the welfare of the coal mining community.
