The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and most parts of North-East India for today and tomorrow. The weather department has also predicted heavy rainfall in several other states across the country, including Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, over the next three to four days.
According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Rajasthan, and a trough runs from northeast Rajasthan to Bangladesh, leading to extremely heavy rainfall in Northeast India, West Bengal, and Odisha for the next two to three days. Very heavy rainfall is also likely to continue over Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Coastal Karnataka for the next two to three days.
The weather department has warned of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Northwest and Central India during the week.
Residents of these states are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts.
