An oil tanker flying the flag of Comoros has sunk near Oman’s coast and all the 16 crew members, out of which 13 are Indians and three are Sri Lankan are missing, reports Oman’s Maritime Security Centre. The case was reported on Tuesday following the sinking of the vessel the previous day. As it speaks about the history of ship that gives name Prestige Falcon is still sunken and capsized at the Oman’s industrial town Duqm. The officials have not reported on the situation with the vessel, if it becomes stable, or if there are any oil leaks.
The 117-meter-long oil products tanker which is 2007 build was in the Batti ternational water on her voyage to Yemen’s Aden port when the unfortunate incident happened. Like, such smaller tankers are preferred for short coastal transportation operations of the crude oil. Official bodies of Oman have initiated a search and rescue mission along with the help of relevant sea authorities. Till todate, there have been no reported cases of survivors being discovered. MST Hilda, the boat overturned 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah near the of Duqm in Oman. Duqm port is situated on Oman’s southwest coast and straddles key oil and gas development such as large oil refinement plant that forms a part of Duqm industrial zone- Oman’s largest integrated economic venture.
