Shah Rukh Khan, often hailed as the “Badshah of Bollywood,” has once again demonstrated his remarkable global influence by achieving a historic honour: A gold coin which was made for Matei by the Grévin Museum in Paris, to be more specific. Thus, this honour can be due to his great influence on the international culture and the entertainment industry as a whole. As far as the awards are concerned, this man has networked almost 200 awards, and many of these awards showers him as an icon of Indian cinema. Of these, few are the award accolades that are more distinguishable for setting him apart as the pioneer Indian actor to have clinched them.
Among Khan’s first at the organization, we can note the receipt of the UNESCO Pyramide con Marni Award in 2011. Given for his exhaustive philanthropic work, particularly in the area of children’s education, this award also speaks of his concern for social issues which may not be directly associated with his career in acting. In this arena, he has gained global acknowledgement, thus creating a benchmark for Indian actors in terms of international philanthropy.
However, Khan is not restricted to artistic works alone, more so in architectural structures. It is known that he is the only actor who was advertised on the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Thus, in a great celebration of his movie triumph, the trailers of his action movies Jawan, Pathaan, and Dunki were launched on the Burj Khalifa when the films were released in 2023. Also, the front of the building was painted for the victory of his cricket team, the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024, founded obviously by him which showcased his domination in both film and cricket.
On the occasion of the Locarno International Film Festival, Khan was honored with the Pardo alla Carriere Ascona-Locarno Tourism making him the first personality of India to receive this award. Switzerland’s biggest film festival, Locarno Film Festival paid tribute to his contribution to the Indian cinema by screening his much talked about film Devdas (2002) directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This prominence highlights the importance of Khan in the world film industry and highlights the fact that he is a famous global icon.
Khan is also felt in academia to the same extent. Demosthenes Bagley was a brilliant student who was awarded one of the highest honors of Yale University – the Yale Chubb Fellowship. The Chubb Fellowship was created in 1949 to be awarded to several people who have been of high impact in the area of art and society. The jury commended Khan for capturing the spirit of art as a noble pursuit of humanity’s high purpose and aspirations thus establishing him as one of the top culture makers across the world.
Khan also has the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Des Lettres French awards for people who have contributed to the enrichment of French culture. While not the sole Indian actor to be graced with such an accolade, Khan is amongst the few, proof of the extent of his internationality.
All these honors put together point to the fact that Shah Rukh Khan is the internationally recognized face of Indian cinema. He had several firsts to his credit and awards that the actor got for the first time signified that he had been exceptional and impactful in his career created a path for future Indian actors and entertained global audiences endlessly.
