Russia Reinforces Kursk Region as Ukrainian Incursion Continues, Federal Emergency Declared

Russia has sent additional troops to the Kursk region as it battles a Ukrainian incursion for the fourth consecutive day. The Russian military has halted the advance of the invading force, but Ukrainian troops remain in some areas of the district. The situation has led to a federal emergency being declared in the Kursk region, with 25 temporary facilities set up to accommodate over 2,000 people, including 520 children.

The Ukrainian attack, launched on Tuesday in the Sudzha district of the Kursk region, is the largest on Russian territory since the conflict between Moscow and Kiev began. Russian warplanes and artillery have targeted Ukrainian troops near several settlements, including Daryino, Gogolevka, Melovoy, and Nikolsky, as well as on the western outskirts of Sudzha town.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has described the Ukrainian attack as a large-scale provocation, accusing Kiev of conducting indiscriminate strikes on civilians, residential buildings, and ambulances. Meanwhile, Ukraine has reported a rising death toll following a Russian strike on a supermarket in the eastern Donetsk region. According to Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko, 10 people were killed and 35 others wounded in the attack on the town of Kostyantynivka.
