The death toll in two mudslides in southern Ethiopia has risen to 229. The death toll is expected to rise as the search for missing people continues in this disaster. On Sunday night, after torrential rains, people were buried under debris in a mudslide in Geje Gofa district of southern Ethiopia. On Monday morning, when people came to help, they too were buried in another such incident. Officials said that the victims included 148 men and 81 women. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has expressed deep condolences to those who died in this tragedy. Seasonal rains in the East African country cause such landslides.
