Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting: Dr. S Jaishankar Emphasizes Need for Trusted Partners and International Cooperation
External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar explained how the global leadership focuses on having the right partners for the comradeship in complex and turbulent time; Quad being an example. At a press briefing following the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Tokyo, when asked about the developments in Quad Dr.Jaishankar said that he was content with the fact that Quad has spread deep-rooted in the foreign policies.

“The meeting recorded notable accomplishments in the various domains of cooperation, such as telecom technology especially the undersea cables, humanitarian & disaster relief, ICT and other emerging and strategic technologies particularly cyber &health security, climate change & environment, infrastructure, capacity building & counter-terrorism etc.” Comprehensive analysis of Quad activities indicates that there are currently 16 functional working groups, and additional activities are discussed.
To that extent, Dr. Jaishankar asserted that Quad is not merely a talk shop but is a work in progress bringing out concrete result including Maritime Domain Awareness in the Indo-Pacific, Open-RAN network for Palau, and Space based Climate Early Warning System.
To the outside world, Quad’s principles of community underpinned by the rule based order including working for the global good and for a free and open Indo-Pacific region are rich in meaning. In his speech, the Minister pressed for deepening the political guidance, economic cooperation, technology partnership, and people connection.
