In a significant development leading up to the Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have announced their first lists of candidates for the upcoming polls. JMM has fielded 35 candidates, while RJD has named six hopefuls, setting the stage for an intense electoral battle in the state.
JMM Candidate List:
  • Hemant Soren, the incumbent Chief Minister and JMM’s Executive President, will seek re-election from the Barhet seat.
  • Rabindra Nath Mahto, the current Speaker, has been nominated from Nala constituency.
  • Kalpana Soren will contest from Gandey.
RJD Candidate List:
  • Sanjay Kumar Singh Yadav, State RJD Chief, is contesting from Hussainabad.
  • Former Minister Suresh Paswan will vie for the Deoghar seat, marking a notable presence in the electoral fray.
  • Interestingly, the RJD has opted not to field Satyanand Bhokta, a Minister in the Hemant Soren-led government. Instead, they have nominated his daughter-in-law from the Chatra constituency.
The seat-sharing arrangement within the I.N.D.I.A bloc allocates 70 seats to JMM and Congress, with RJD and CPI-M securing 11 seats each. The Congress has already announced 21 candidates, while CPI-ML is yet to officially unveil its list.
The elections are scheduled to be conducted in two phases, with polling on November 13 for the first phase and November 20 for the second. The counting of votes is set for November 23, which will determine the formation of the next government in Jharkhand.
