Rajasthan Rain Havoc: 22 Dead, Schools Closed, Relief Efforts Underway
Heavy rains continue to wreak a trail of destruction in Rajasthan that that one could barely recognize; at least 22 deaths reported across various districts since Saturday. Water has filled streets of Jaipur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur and Dausa; in view of the floods all government and private schools in seven districts will remain closed today.
The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajanlal Sharma, called a meeting of his top aides in Jaipur in order to co-ordinate the response and get assistance to the people as quickly as was possible. He instructed the relevant authorities to act on the basis of such forecasts and increase the search and rescue efforts in the suffering regions.

A tragedy was seen in the Bharatpur district when seven youths lost their lives in the Banganga river close to Srinagar village. In another fatal incident four friends drowned themselves while attempting to rescue a man who fell in deep water at Kanota Dam near Jaipur. Further, approximately ten persons were killed in the rain related mishaps in the several districts.
The Chief Minister has urged the people of the State to take utmost precaution when there is heavy rain in the region. On the other hand, the Met Department has sounded an alert on heavy to very heavy rain in the seven eastern districts of the state today.
