Ghazipur police, in a coordinated operation involving teams from Jangipur and Birno police stations, arrested two cow meat smugglers after an intense encounter in the Birno area. The incident occurred near Nasratpur during a routine patrol when police spotted a suspicious pickup vehicle.

When police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, sparking a chase towards Bhawarha turn. The smugglers opened fire on police, who responded in self-defense, resulting in both culprits being injured by gunshots to their legs. They were immediately admitted to CHC Birno for medical treatment.

One other accused managed to escape in the darkness, and police are actively pursuing him. At the encounter site, officers recovered two illegal pistols, ammunition, and a pickup loaded with cattle slaughter.

The arrested accused are identified as Santosh Rajbhar from Karimuddinpur and Sonu Yadav from Jamsada, Dullahpur police station area. Both have multiple criminal cases registered against them in Ghazipur, Ballia, and Barabanki districts, including cases under the Arms Act, Anti-Gangster Act, and cattle cruelty laws.

The police team, led by Birno and Jangipur officers, has started legal proceedings and intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
