New Delhi – In a gesture of support for Sri Lanka’s economic challenges, India has allocated additional funds for the construction of transit houses at Madhu Shrine in Mannar. The Low Cost Transit Housing Construction Project will receive an extra 100 million Sri Lankan rupees, bringing the total commitment to 400 million rupees.
The project, currently underway, aims to build 96 transit houses for pilgrims visiting the shrine. The additional funding is part of India’s effort to expedite the completion of nine ongoing grant projects in Sri Lanka, mitigating the impact of rising construction costs.
High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, and Secretary in the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, WS Sathyananda, formalized the modalities with a diplomatic letter exchange.
